Because I need to be an Australian Citizen for the work project I'm starting, I managed to get the whole procedure done relatively quickly - within three months. It meant studying for and sitting the test (a breeze for anybody that knows English and has been here for a while), formally applying for citizenship and having your credentials checked, and finally the citizenship ceremony.
The ceremony was today, organised by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in the city.
It was a formality - pledging your allegiance to Australia, but it was nevertheless a somewhat moving event. Doris and the children accompanied me, which made it extra special.
