Annabelle, Christopher, Doris and Bernt
wish everybody a very happy 2009!
We are very much looking forward to 2009 – it will be an exciting year for us!
We are looking for a house to really settle in, and most likely will buy a block of land and build a solid, environmentally sound house to our liking. Researching and designing that will keep us busy for a while! We’re currently looking for land around Eltham – a tree-rich area on the north side of Melbourne, not too far from the city. It will mean that Christopher has to change schools, but there is a Montessori school close to Eltham. Eltham has been home to ‘alternative’ people for a long time, and we are more aligned with their views than with the path western society has taken. That path will need to change if we are to survive as a race, and we intend to continue doing our bit in that.
Bernt will finally go back to work. We are really happy we were in the position to raise our children at home, and not having to send them to childcare as so many parents are forced to do. But full-time house-husbanding is not Bernt’s calling, and he’s very eager to get back into engineering-related work. Initially this will involve his old work – hopefully from the premises of the Department of Defence. That project is still his passion, and even if it doesn’t take off, it allows him to get up to speed with the current state of the art in computer technology. That should make him a bit more marketable… currently his CV doesn’t look very good (So, what have you done the past 11 years?).
Annabelle is also starting at Montessori this year, for two afternoons a week. Doris will probably work a little bit less, and we’ll make sure that either Bernt or Doris is at home to care for the children.
